Crowe RIver (Braun) Vangater II Lift System
Tri-fold lift: Being able to get in and out of the van without having to deploy the lift is a really important feature but many wheelchair lifts completely block the door. This van is a delightful exception. The lift wraps around when it stows allowing passengers and cargo to pass easily through the door.
8 inch lowered floor: More head room in the van, your wheelchair passenger doesn't have to duck or whack his/her head going through the door. The floor surface is flat and has a hard rubber finish so it's easy to push and turn the wheelchair without having to negotiate bumps and hurdles found in the factory floors of vans. The lowered floor gives you all this while still being able to fit through a standard garage door. It also gives you the option of using the wheelchair lift to move large objects like a washing machine if the need arises.
Automatic doors: The side doors where the lift is located open and close automatically when the lift is deployed or stowed.
Optional configuration for wheelchair to occupy driver's position: The lowered floor extends into the drivers area so the platform under the driver's seat can be removed so the wheelchair passenger can drive the van. In fact, the previous owner was a paraplegic who drove the van unattended.
4 sets of controls: You're going to love this. You have total freedom to operate the lift from virtually anywhere, from both inside and outside the van. Controls to operate the lift are located as follows:
1. On the lift itself so the wheelchair passenger can operate controls.
2. On the dash where the driver or a passenger can operate them.
3. On the post inside the van that supports the lift where you can operate them while rolling the wheelchair on/off the lift.
4. On the outside of the vehicle (with a key lock) under a tail light so someone in a wheelchair can open the doors and operate the lift completely unattended.
Track system tie downs: Track mounted tie downs allow flexibility for different size wheelchairs. Just snap them in wherever they work best. Comes with 4 self-retracting Qstraint tie downs worth $400!
New wiring harness: In addition to all this I recently had the complete wiring harness for the wheelchair lift professionally replaced at a cost of $500.
It's White! This may not seem like a big deal but white vans are easier on their passengers on hot summer days and many, like my disabled daughter, don't handle the heat well. This means I don't have to precool the van forever on summer days before loading her in the van and less risk if she accidentally gets left in the van.
History of the Vehicle
I am the second owner of this vehicle. I have owned it since 2010.
I had the trailer hitch installed to tow a small 6x10 trailer with my daughter's equipment so it has not been abused towing large trailers. The first owner was disabled so this has been a wheelchair van its entire life. It has also been an Oregon vehicle (Portland, Medford areas) its entire life so you don't have to worry about rust.
Known Problems/Issues
As far as major problems I'm not aware of anything. The van runs fine and has been dependable. We've just outgrown it and need something larger.
Minor Issues
As it accelerates up to speed you will notice a small vibration at certains RPMs for a second or two. It's done it ever since I owned the van. The previous owner reported the same thing. It's so minor neither of us ever had it fixed.
The intermittent feature of the wipers doesn't always work. You could say the intermittent wipers are intermittent. All the fixed speeds work fine.
The medium fan speed for the rear heat/air only works with the rear control. You can still set it on medium. You just have to use the rear control to do it.
You will notice in the VIN history report several entries saying it failed emissions tests. The first two entries were for when I replaced the catalytic converters and the second two entries said the fuel mixture was too lean (I had to take it back to my mechanic a second time because they didn't fix it correctly the first time).
Fuel economy: What can I say, it's a full size van.
So why am I selling it?
I have a profoundly disabled daughter, a quadriplegic wife, and
I'm a disabled veteran. We need a vehicle that can transport
3 wheelchairs so I bought a shuttle bus.
